Klotho Protein As A Topical Therapy For Facial Photoaging Using Combined Delivery Technologies
Exciting new research explores a promising approach to combating the visible signs of skin aging caused by sun exposure. This innovative strategy focuses on a protein called Klotho, which is naturally associated with longevity and plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular balance and fighting off damage from harmful molecules called free radicals.
In laboratory settings, Klotho has been shown to reduce DNA damage caused by ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation and boost the activity of other proteins involved in cell repair and anti-aging. Building on this, a recent study investigated the effects of applying Klotho topically to the skin. Participants used a regimen of three products—a face serum, an eye serum, and a night cream—over 16 weeks.
The results were remarkable: participants experienced a significant reduction in overall facial photodamage, with improvements becoming noticeable as early as four weeks into the study and continuing throughout the 16-week period. Specifically, there were substantial improvements in issues like uneven skin pigmentation (dyschromia), fine lines and wrinkles, skin dryness and scaling, and peeling. The treatment was also well-tolerated, with no significant adverse reactions.
These findings suggest that incorporating this special protein into skincare could offer a new way to protect and rejuvenate skin, addressing multiple aspects of aging caused by environmental factors.
