The researchers found that when Daphnia ate algae that had been grown in warmer, more stressful conditions, the Daphnia themselves became more resilient to heat and lived longer.

However, there was a trade-off: while the Daphnia lived longer and tolerated heat better, they produced fewer offspring. This research sheds light on how environmental stress can ripple through food chains, potentially influencing the survival and reproduction of organisms in unexpected ways.
