Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) is a significant liver condition that currently lacks approved drug treatments. This disease is often driven by problems within the mitochondria, the powerhouses of our cells, leading to fat imbalance, inflammation, and scarring in the liver.

Recent research explored the potential of two compounds, MitoQ and SS-31, which are designed to specifically target and improve mitochondrial function. The study was conducted on aged female mice that were fed a diet high in fat and fructose to induce MASLD, mimicking the human condition.
